Checking seals work

Temperature and pressure affect the way all seals work – be they O-rings, bonds, mastics, joints or enclosure. This effects almost every product and piece of equipment sold worldwide.  Most seals are designed to keep out water vapour, hydrocarbons such as greases, CO2 or other contaminants. But all of them are affected, often dramatically, by temperature and pressure.

Versaperm’s vapour permeability systems measure how effective materials and seals are across a very wide range of temperatures and pressures – from -80 to 1100C and from 0-300bar. It works for every single vapour in general use*. This gives designers and manufacturers the ability to test and effectively eliminate sealing problems across almost all standard and most non-standard environmental and operational conditions.

Seals perform very differently under different conditions, and even more so under extreme or super-critical ones.  Such conditions are actually common, for example in engines, cold storage and with super-critical fluids such as CO2 which is widely used due to its abilities to purify materials.

The Versaperm equipment achieves results that are accurate in the PPM (Parts per Million) to PPB ranges.  It can optionally measure several samples, seals, enclosures or products at a single time.  Its automated control makes it simple to operate and it can simulate diurnal, seasonal cycles and operational cycles.

The company also runs consultancy and laboratory services that offers advice on permeability in complex cases or where the volume or logistics do not mandate a dedicated instrument.

* It could work for all gases but dangerous gases can only be measured in certified establishments
